The 25th of September has been declared by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) as the World Pharmacists Day.
The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) is the global federation that represents national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical sciences and it was founded in 1912. FIP represents 139 national associations and more than three million pharmacists around the world. It has been acknowledged by WHO and Unesco and promotes the development of the pharmacist profession aiming to improve global health and access to reliable, low-cost, quality medicines worldwide.
At the 2009 FIP Council, the Congress in Turkey declared the 25th of September as the World Pharmacists Day, after the suggestion of the Turkish Pharmacists Association.
The theme for this year’s World Pharmacists Day is “Pharmacists : Caring for you”.
This year’s theme was chosen to reflect the important role of pharmacists in providing care to the public, and also to highlight the emotional connection they have with their patients. The role of pharmacists has evolved from that of a provider of medicines to that of a provider of care. Pharmacists have a vital role in the outcome of pharmacological therapies and ultimately strive to improve patients’ quality of life.
